August 22, 2016 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Tri-City Dust Devils News Release
Eric Lauer earned his first professional win on Sunday night as the Tri-City Dust Devils (9-15, 28-34) beat the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (10-14, 27-35) at Gesa Stadium 5-3. Lauer, the 25th overall pick of this year's MLB Draft, tossed five scoreless innings for the Dust Devils.
Tri-City's lefty starter was not the only high draft pick to give the team a boost. Hudson Potts, the 17-year-old who was taken one spot prior with the 24th overall choice, had two singles and drove in a run. Fellow newcomer Fernando Tatis Jr. had a pair of hits and scored one of the team's five runs.
After jumping out to a 4-0 lead, the Dust Devils had to hold off a late push by Salem-Keizer. The Volcanoes scored two runs in the eighth inning to cut Tri-City's lead in half. The Dust Devils would get an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning, courtesy of a G.K. Young single that drove home Kyle Overstreet.
Things got tight in the top of the ninth inning. The first three batters for the Volcanoes all got hits off of reliever Jesse Scholents. With the go-ahead run at the plate, Scholtens got a strikeout and a double play to slam the door shut on Salem-Keizer.
Left-hander Joey Lucchesi will start the middle game of the five-game series on Monday night. The Volcanoes will counter with left-hander Mac Marsahll. It will be Coca-Cola Monday where all 22oz. Coca-Cola products are $1 throughout the evening. Great seats are available by calling the Dust Devils' front office at (509) 544-8789 or by going to www.dustdevilsbaseball.com to purchase tickets.
