Another Dawson Signed; Training Camp Approaching

The back-to-back National Lacrosse League World Champion Rochester Knighthawks announced Monday they re-signed defenseman Paul Dawson to a four-year deal. Dawson entered the league in 2007 and won his first Champion's Cup with the Knighthawks in 2013 after being traded to the team from the Philadelphia Wings.

"He's a big body that has a reputation. Best of all, he knows how to play that game, and he plays the game very well for us," said Rochester Head Coach Mike Hasen. "Guys are aware when he is on the floor, most definitely. He's a stay-at-home guy as well. A few of our guys can take a few chances knowing that Paul is going to be there to back us up."

The Knighthawks acquired Dawson on December 14, 2012 in a blockbuster trade with the Wings, which sent Paul Rabil, Jordan Hall, Joel White, Rob Campbell and a second-round selection in the 2014 Entry Draft to Philadelphia in exchange for brothers Dan and Paul Dawson and a first-round selection in 2016.

Dawson has appeared in 97 regular season games throughout his seven years in the league and has recorded 11 goals and 33 assists. He has collected 297 loose balls and has accumulated 266 penalty minutes. On April 27 th, Paul Dawson scored the first game-winning playoff goal of his career. He has played in seven postseason games in his NLL career, scoring two goals, adding one assist and collecting 23 loose balls.

In 2011, Dawson notched a career-high five goals and 14 points (5+9). He grabbed a career-high 75 loose balls in 2010 with the Boston Blazers. In the summer, he has won two Mann Cups with the Brampton Excelsiors (2009 and 2010). He played 100 Junior "A" games with Burlington (2002-04) and Brampton (2005-06) as a goaltender. Dawson was drafted with the seventh overall pick in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft by the San Jose Stealth. In 2014, Dawson will enter his eighth season in the NLL and second with the Knighthawks.

Dawson and the rest of the Knighthawks are now preparing for Training Camp, which will take place at the brand new, state-of-the-art Unity Health System Total Sports Experience location in East Rochester. The first practice will be held on Saturday, November 23 rd from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Fight for Air Climb: The Rochester Knightingales and Knighthawks Director of Communications, Craig Rybczynski, will be at the Fight for Air Climb on Saturday, November 16 th at 10:00 a.m. The dancers will be cheering on climbers as they ascend 20 flights of stairs at the Bausch and Lomb building in downtown Rochester to raise money for the American Lung Association. They will also be handing out tickets to the Knighthawks' December 7th preseason game against the Minnesota Swarm. Tickets to the game are free.

This Week in Knighthawks History: On November 16, 2004, the Rochester Knighthawks signed former Buffalo forward Mike Accursi to a two-year deal. Accursi has spent six of his 16 seasons in the National Lacrosse League with the Knighthawks. He ranks fourth in franchise history with 358 points, third with 221 assists and 137 goals. Accursi also ranks third in playoff points with 43 (28+17), and has won three of Rochester's four league titles (2007, 2012 and 2013). For his career, he ranks fifth in NLL history in games played (233) and 10th in goals scored (386).
