FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - There is no definitive timetable on when Isaac Angking may return to the training ground, but New England Revolution head coach Brad Friedel said "signs are positive" that the 18-year-old midfielder is progressing well from the non-soccer related medical emergency that has kept him sidelined for the past two months.
Angking left the Revolution's preseason camp in Arizona with an undisclosed illness in mid-February, just six weeks after signing as the fourth Homegrown Player in club history. Prior to departing the Tucson camp, Angking appeared in all three of the Revs' preseason games in Bradenton, Florida.
A native of Providence, R.I., Angking hasn't trained since preseason, but he has recently rejoined his teammates at their Gillette Stadium training facility, and Friedel said "he's in the club now doing some physical activity."
"He's on the mend, and we hope to have him out here as quickly as humanly possible," added Friedel, reiterating that he has no timeframe on Angking's potential return. "We see him around the place a lot more now, so that's a good thing."
Angking is one of only two players currently listed on the Revolution's injury report, as Kelyn Rowe is expected to miss anywhere from one to four weeks with a left knee injury.
