Angel City FC News Release
LOS ANGELES - Angel City Football Club (ACFC) is proud to share that forward Sveindís Jónsdóttir has been named National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Month and Head Coach Alex Straus has earned Coach of the Month honors to kick off the 2026 NWSL Season.
Jónsdóttir's electric performances through the first three matches of the 2026 campaign have been a driving force behind ACFC's best start in club history. She kicked off the season with two assists in ACFC's 4-0 home opener win against Chicago. The Icelandic attacker had a career night at Bay FC, recording two goals and one assist in a 3-1 win, the most goal contributions ever by an Angel City player in a single match. Most recently, she opened scoring in the club's comeback victory over Houston on March 27, giving her a league-leading total of three goals and four assists in Angel City's 3-0-0 start.
Head Coach Straus is recognized for leading Angel City to its best winning streak in history, guiding the team with tactical precision and a clear identity. Under his leadership, ACFC has started the youngest winning Starting XI in league history two weeks in a row. Additionally, he has led ACFC to become the eighth team in league history to start the season with three straight wins.
NWSL monthly honors are voted on by the NWSL Media Association and the league's on-air broadcast talent.
Angel City FC will face the Orlando Pride tomorrow, Friday, April 3 at Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando live on Prime Video (5:00 p.m. PT/8:00 p.m. ET).
