Andreoli Delivers Iowa's First

August 10, 2017 - Pacific Coast League (PCL) - Iowa Cubs News Release

DES MOINES, IA - John Andreoli knocked in the winning run in the 11th inning, giving the Iowa Cubs (54-59) a 6-5 win over the Sacramento River Cats (49-66), Tuesday at Principal Park. It was Iowa's first walk-off victory of the season.

The River Cats pounced on Rob Zastrzyny in the first inning, pushing three runs across the plate to collect the early lead. Iowa worked back into the game, scoring once in each of the first two innings and eventually capturing a 5-4 lead in the fifth on a two-RBI double from Taylor Davis. The scorching hot catcher went 2-for-5 on the night with three RBI and is hitting .424 (26-for-66) through his last 16 games.

Zastryzny lasted five innings, allowing four runs before surrendering the ball to Felix Pena. Pena was untouchable through two frames, fanning five - a season high - in a perfect two innings. He came out for the eighth and promptly gave up back-to-back singles that led to a run and a 5-5 tie game.

Iowa was held without a hit from the seventh through the 10th, but stepped up when it counted in the 11th. Chesny Young drew a one-out walk and sped home on a deep double to left-center from Andreoli to clinch the victory for Iowa. Pierce Johnson took the win, improving to 3-2 on the season.

Andreoli finished his night 3-for-6 with a pair of RBI. Mark Zagunis, Mike Freeman and Young each added two hits to the mix.

Iowa and Sacramento clash again tomorrow at 12:08 p.m. at Principal Park. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com .
