Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, MB. - A long time minor hockey and baseball coach in southwestern Manitoba has been chosen this month's recipient of the Brandon Wheat Kings - Atom Jet Group Community Hero Award.

Corey Anderson helps to coach three hockey teams in his hometown of Glenboro in the winter and then when the weather turns warmer in the spring, he turns his attention to the diamond, where he helps to coach two baseball teams.

In his nomination, submitted by Glenboro Minor Sports, organizers said that "Corey will run multiple practices one after the other while grabbing a bit to eat in between when the ice is being cleaned. He is the most patient person you will ever meet. The kids in Glenboro look up to him...he is a phenomenal coach. He's so positive with all of the kids, pointing out strengths rather than weaknesses."

"Not only does Corey coach...he also sits on the local board as well as helping to keep our rink going. He is one of our community heroes and we would love for him to be recognized in this fashion."

A special presentation will be made to Corey during this Tuesday's game between Brandon and Saskatoon at Westoba Place.

Each month during the 2017-18 Wheat Kings season, an individual or group is chosen the Atom-Jet Community Hero of the Month. This award is presented to those, who have demonstrated significant achievements, performances and contributions to western Manitoba in the areas of athletics, charity work and volunteer efforts.

Tuesday's game is the second and final Rain Check game of the season, presented by Red River Mutual. Any unused ticket (dated December 6th through March 9th) can be exchanged at the Keystone Centre box office for a "free" ticket to this game.

Fans attending Tuesday night's game will also have the opportunity to be one of the first to purchase a "duck" for this summer's annual Riverbank Duck Race, scheduled for the July 1st Canada Day Celebrations at the Riverbank Discovery Centre.

Not only will fans be supporting a number of exciting projects at Brandon Riverbank Inc, including Festival Park, they will have a chance to win some great prizes including $5,000 cash sponsored by Westoba Credit Union, Maui Jim Prescription sunglasses from FYI Doctors, a framed limited edition "Someday" print and autographed stick from the Wheat Kings as well as gift certificates from a number of participating sponsors such as Shoppers Mall, Safeway, Lakeview Inn and Suites, the Days Inn, Home Hardware as well as 2 Weekend Passes to Rockin' the Fields in Minnedosa.

The Wheat Kings, who will close out the regular season this Saturday when the Wheat Kings play the back half of a weekend home and home series with the first place Moose Jaw Warriors, clinched a WHL playoff berth on Saturday when they doubled up on the Blades 4-2 in Saskatoon.

Tickets to both remaining home games are on sale at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com.
