Alexandria Blue Anchors News Release

La Crosse, Wis. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors had their first battle with a South Division opponent Wednesday night at Copeland Park and fell to La Crosse Loggers 10-5. The loss puts the Anchors' record at 4-19.

The Loggers jumped on the board early against Blue Anchor starter Spencer Koopmans. Kevin Zak collected an RBI single in the first inning giving the Loggers a 1-0 lead. In the second, Luke Persico led off the inning with a solo homer to left extending the lead to 2-0.

Alexandria got on the board in the third thanks to a Jordan Lee two-out solo home run cutting the Loggers' lead in half at 2-1.

La Crosse got that run back in the bottom of the third as Mike Nadratowski walked to start the frame and wound up scoring on three wild pitches by Koopmans.

The Anchors responded quickly again in the fourth. Kris Goodman was hit by a pitch and went to second on a Roman Collins base hit. Goodman and Collins executed a double steal and Rickey Sanchez brought home Goodman on a ground out to make the score 3-2 in the Loggers' favor.

The seesaw battle continued in the fifth. Zak doubled with one out and scored on an Austin Rei double extending La Crosse's lead to 4-2.

In the top of the sixth, Jake Bergren singled to lead off and one out later, Roman Collins ripped a triple bringing home Bergren putting Alexandria down 4-3.

Robbie Mouton, who entered to finish the fifth, hit Marc Frazier to start the sixth. A sac bunt moved Frazier to second and a single by Jerrod Bravo brought in one run to make the score 5-3.

Lee got the offense started again for Alexandria in the seventh. He singled with out out and would come around to score on a Craig Nennig double. Bergren collected another single to score Nennig and tie the game at five.

Defensive woes again led to the demise of the Blue Anchors. Rei walked with one out and went to second when Ryne Birk was hit by a pitch. Frazier hit what seemed to be an inning-ending double play but an error by Mouton would load the bases. Persico singled in two runs and that gave La Crosse a 7-5 lead and ended Mouton's night. Aaron Rozek came on in relief and allowed a single to Bravo to bring in Frazier. After getting the second out of the inning, a double by Nash Knight would bring in two more runs and give the final score of 10-5.

Koopmans who made his season debut finished his outing pitching 4.1 innings allowing four runs on eight hits and three walks. Mouton (0-3) took the loss pitching two innings giving up five runs (three earned) on three hits and a walk. Rozek finished the game pitching 1.2 innings surrendering one unearned run on two hits with one walk and one strikeout.
