Anaheim Storm News Release
Anaheim, CA (October 26, 2004) - The National Lacrosse League's (NLL) Anaheim Storm announced today that the team acquired defender Cam Bergman, goalie Matt King, forward Shawn Cable and defender Rory Graham from Minnesota in exchange for goalie Matt Disher and defenseman Teddy Jenner.
"This trade is important to the structure of the Anaheim Storm," said General Manager and Head Coach Derek Keenan. "We get Bergman back; add depth to the left side of our offense with Cable; put another physical defender on the floor with Graham plus gain King, a young goalie we can grow. Although I am sorry to lose the talent of Disher and Jenner, I feel that this really is a win-win for both teams."
Bergman, 21, returns to Anaheim after being acquired by Minnesota just last week in the NLL Expansion Draft. A rookie defender last season for the Storm, he played in seven games recording three points (1G, 2A) and 37 loose balls. In 2003, he was named British Columbia Jr. Lacrosse League Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-Star. A native of Coquitlam, British Columbia, Bergman was selected by the Anaheim Storm in the second round of the 2003 NLL Entry Draft.
Cable, 24, comes to Anaheim with 32 points (17G,15A) and 68 loose balls in 19 career NLL games during three seasons with Calgary and Colorado. With the Mammoth during the 2003-04 season, he played in five games, acquring six points (1G, 5A). The 6-foot, 180-pound native of Prince George, British Columbia acquired by the Swarm in a trade with Colorado on October 20.
Graham, 27, recorded two assists, 19 loose balls and 22 penalty minutes in eight games with the Mammoth last year. In a career total six seasons and 59 games, the 5-foot-11, 210-pound native of Port Moody, British Columbia has 36 points (14G, 22A), 173 penalty minutes and 232 loose balls. Graham has held defensive positions with Toronto, Columbus, Ottawa and Colorado. During his two seasons with Toronto, Graham played under Keenan, then assistant coach of the Rock. Minnesota acquired Graham on October 20, in the same trade with Colorado that sent Cable to the Swarm.
King, 23, posted a record of 2-1 with a 12.17 goals against average (GAA) and a .719 save percentage in six games as a goaltender with the NLL Champion Calgary Roughnecks last season. He appeared on the floor in the last ten regular season games, recording three assists, as well as in three playoff games. King, a native of Victoria, British Columbia, also won the 2003 Mann Cup with the Victoria Shamrocks. Originally Calgary's second pick (29th overall) in the 2001 NLL Entry Draft, he was selected by Minnesota in the Expansion Draft on October 19.
Both players traded to Minnesota spent just one season with the Storm. Disher was acquired by Anaheim as the first pick of the 2003 Ottawa Dispersal Draft; Jenner came to Anaheim in the fall of 2003 through a trade with Rochester.
Tonight in the NLL Entry Draft, the Anaheim Storm will make their first pick in the 2nd round, with the 18th overall selection. Results will be posted on the team web site, www.anaheimstorm.com.
The Anaheim Storm kick-off the 2005 season at home against the Philadelphia Wings on Saturday, January 8th. Season ticket packages are on sale now. Visit www.anaheimstorm.com or call (714) 704-2934 for more information.
