
Minnesota Swarm Selects Four Players in 2004 NLL Entry Draft

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. â The National Lacrosse League's (NLL) Minnesota Swarm selected four players tonight in the 2004 NLL Entry Draft. The Swarm selected forward Ryder Bateman from the Victoria Shamrocks of the British Columbia Lacrosse Association with its first round pick (6th overall); Minnesota selected defenseman Scott Campbell from the Brooklin Redmen of the Ontario Lacrosse Association with its second round pick (10th overall); the Swarm selected defenseman Kyle Ross from the Port Coquitlam Saints of the British Columbia Junior Lacrosse Association with its fifth round pick (44th overall) and goalie Mike Attwood from the St. Catharines Athletics of the Ontario Junior Lacrosse Association with its sixth round pick (55th overall).
"We were relieved to select Ryder Bateman with the sixth overall pick," said Minnesota Swarm General Manager Marty O'Neill. "We feel he is the kind of player that can make an impact on our team."
Bateman registered 33 points (16-17=33) in 19 games with Victoria this season. The 6-foot, 185-pound forward ranked sixth on the team in scoring and potted two power play goals, three shorthanded tallies and 21 penalty minutes. The Victoria, British Columbia-native added 18 points (10-8=18) in eight playoff contests.
Campbell recorded six points (3-3=6) in 14 games with Brooklin this season and ranked tied for first on the team in penalty minutes with 35.
Ross ranked sixth in scoring with Port Coquitlam this season with 18 points (9-9=18) in 17 games and led the British Columbia Junior Lacrosse Association in penalty minutes with 122.
Attwood tallied 21 points (1-20=21) in 20 games with St Catharines this season.
Minnesota acquired the Rochester Knighthawks first round pick (6th overall) in the 2004 NLL Entry Draft along with forward Derek Malawsky, defenseman Brock Robertson and forward D'Arcy Sweet in exchange for forward Mike Accursi, forward Ken Millin, Minnesota's first round selection (8th overall) and fourth round selection (32nd overall) in the 2004 NLL Entry Draft.
