Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

On Friday, March 4th, the band Old Dominion played a gig at the Seven Flags Event Center in Des Moines, but one of the members of the band was in very familiar surroundings; guitarist and keyboard player Trevor Rosen was a member of the 1994-1995 Des Moines Buccaneers, where he would score 15 goals and have 33 points in 42 regular season games.

Rosen was able to make a trip to Buccaneer Arena Friday morning in order to take a look around and was nice enough to take some time to talk about what it felt like being back in his old stomping grounds. "It's awesome. It's been a long time; it's been over 20 years since I played here. A lot of good memories," Rosen proclaimed. "We had a great season, won the championship, so it's really like a flood of memories while walking back into this building."

Rosen was a little humble in mentioning the Buccaneers won the championship that season, they actually won three titles in what fans refer to as the "Triple Crown" season. Des Moines won the Anderson Cup as regular season champs with a 38-5-5 record, finishing 14 points ahead of the Omaha Lancers in the standings. The Buccaneers then defeated Omaha in the USHL playoffs to claim the Clark Cup and then headed to Detroit, MI for the USA Junior A National Tournament. Des Moines would again face the Omaha Lancers and it was Rosen's goal in overtime that gave the Buccaneers the Gold Cup; it was the only season in the franchises' history to win all three.

Trevor originally hails from Woodhaven, Michigan and after his season in Des Moines he headed to his home state school of Northern Michigan University. Another profession eventually made its calling though and in 2003 Rosen moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue songwriting. Rosen proved to be as talented writing songs as he was on the ice as he has co-written such hit songs as The Band Perry's "Better Dig Two," Blake Shelton's "Sangria," Chris Young's "Neon" and Dierks Bentley's "Say You Do."

Upon arriving in Nashville Rosen met Matthew Ramsey and their collaborations eventually led to the forming of the band Old Dominion in 2007. In October of 2014 the band was named in a Rolling Stone article "10 Artists You Need to Know: Fall 2014 (http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/new-country-artists-2014-20141010) and the music magazine seemed to be right when in January of 2015 Old Dominion's song "Break Up With Him" reached #3 in the U.S. Country charts. Their album "Meat and Candy" also reached #3 on the charts and it also included the song "Snapback" which this year was also a top 20 hit on the U.S. Country charts.

While Rosen and Old Dominion have stopped off in the Des Moines area before, his busy schedule doesn't always afford him a chance to visit Buccaneer Arena. "We played here last year but I didn't get a chance to really go around we were sort of in and out but I had some time today," Rosen explained on his latest visit. Rosen made sure to make the most of his time. "I got a chance to come here and then called up my old housing parents so we're gonna go to dinner. It's nice to have a little time."
