Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, won their opener against the Idaho Steelheads on Wednesday night by a score of 4-2 at Allen Event Center.
Spencer Asuchak scored two goals for the Americans, his 14th and 15th of the season. His power play goal at the 13:32 mark of the third period turned out to be the game-winner for Allen.
"We recovered well after giving up the early goal," said Americans forward Spencer Asuchak." We kept the pressure on Idaho the entire game. They're a great team with a lot of weapons. CJ (Motte) made so many big saves tonight. We need to come out with that same intensity on Friday."
The Americans made the most of their power play opportunities going 1 for 2 with the man-advantage. Idaho went 1 for 4 scoring a power play goal late in the third period.
CJ Motte won his 13th game of the season. Motte stopped 26 of 28 Idaho shots. Dante Salituro's assist on Alex Ranger's fourth goal of the year extended his point streak to eight games. Adam Miller had a two-point night for Allen, scoring his 13th goal of the year and adding an assist.
The same two clubs face-off again on Friday night at the Allen Event Center. Call 972-912-1000 for tickets.
