Tri-City Americans News Release
KENNEWICK, WA - Tri-City Americans' General Manager Bob Tory announced today that the team has signed 15-year-old prospect Justin Spagrud to a standard WHL Player's Contract.
Spagrud, a 6'0 160 lb. forward from Gull Lake, Saskatchewan, is currently playing with the Swift Current Legionnaires of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey league. Heading into the weekend, Spagrud has collected nine goals and 15 points in 32 games. The Americans' third round (63rd overall) pick from the 2010 bantam draft, Spagrud will also skate for Team Saskatchewan at the 2011 Canada Winter Games, being held in Halifax, Nova Scotia from February 11-27.
"Justin is one of the top 1995-aged players in Western Canada," Tory explained. "We are pleased that he has chosen the WHL, and our program, to pursue his hockey ambitions."
Next fall, Spagrud will participate in both the Americans' rookie and main training camps in Kennewick.
The Americans are preparing for a pivotal doubleheader weekend, when they face both teams they are chasing in the division standings. Before taking on the rival Chiefs in Spokane on Saturday, the Americans will host the Portland Winterhawks (32-14-0-3) on Friday, January 28. Game time is 7:05 p.m. at the Toyota Center. Portland, who will host Chilliwack on Wednesday, has currently won five straight, which also included their last meeting with the Americans, a 5-4 overtime win on January 18. Meanwhile, Tri-City currently leads the nine-game season series 3-1-1-0. Tickets are available through all Ticketmaster outlets, including online at ticketmaster.com, the Toyota Center box office, or all Fred Meyer outlets. Fans from around the Pacific Northwest or who are unable to make it to the game can catch all the action live on Fox Sports Northwest and Fox Sports Northwest HD starting at 7:00 p.m. The game will also be broadcast live on NewsTalk 870 AM, starting with the Sterling Savings Bank Warm-up Show at 6:45 p.m.
