Tri-City Americans News Release
KENNEWICK, WA - Tri-City Americans Governor/General Manager Bob Tory announced today that the team has signed 16-year-old prospect Kurtis Rutledge to a standard WHL Players Contract.
Rutledge, a 6'2 175-pound defenseman from Calgary, Alberta, played last season with the Calgary Flames of the Alberta Midget Hockey League, playing in 15 games and collecting 1 goal, 6 points and 12 penalty minutes. Originally drafted by Tri-City in the 8th round (163rd overall) of the 2012 Bantam Draft, Rutledge becomes the 8th member of the Americans' 2012 Draft class to sign with the club. Combined with Jordan Topping's signing from last Thursday, Tri-City has now signed its top-6 picks and 8 of their first 9 selections from the 2012 Draft.
"Since drafting (Kurtis), he has continued to trend upwards in his play and development," explained Barclay Parneta, the Americans' Prospect Development Coach/Head Scout. "His hard work paid off with his selection to the Team Pacific U-17 Top-40 camp earlier this summer and we look forward watching his continued development into a WHL defender."
Fresh off their first three pre-season games of the year, Tri-City (0-3-0-0) will now prepare to host their own Red Lion Hotels Pre-Season Tournament this weekend at the Toyota Center. The tournament kicks off on Thursday night, as the host Americans take on the Kootenay Ice. Game time is 7:05 p.m. For a full tournament schedule, visit the Americans' website at www.amshockey.com. Tickets are on sale now through all Ticketmaster outlets, including the Toyota Center box office, all Fred Meyer locations or online at ticketmaster.com.
