Allen Americans News Release

ALLEN, Texas - The Americans recorded their first club win in the preseason matchup last night with a 3-1 victory over the 2009 CHL Champion Texas Brahmas at the NYTEX Sports Centre in North Richland Hills tonight.

The Americans struck first 9:29 into the first period with a goal from forward Britt Dougherty that was assisted by Liam Huculak. Texas tied it up a little over a minute later with a goal from Mark Rooneem.

The second period had a lone goal from Allen's own Tobias Whelan with 1:13 left in the period.

The teams got more physical in the third with the Americans taking four penalties and the Brahmas taking three, but neither team was able to take advantage of their power play opportunities.

Allen goalie Charlie Effinger made key saves and finished the night with a total of 28. Dougherty was named the first star of the game, and Whelan was the second star.

Last Thursday the Americans hosted the Brahmas in the Community Rink in the Allen Event and lost 4-3. Tonight's win brings the series record to 1-1. The first two matchups indicate that the two teams' much anticipated rivalry will be a good one.

The Americans begin the season Friday on the road against the Arizona Sundogs. The game starts at 8:05 CST.

The Americans, the Dallas Stars' CHL affiliate, begin play this fall in the newly built Allen Event Center in The Village at Allen. Season tickets, partial plans and group tickets are on sale now, and corporate partnerships are also available. Ticket plans start at $88.
