Amarillo Gorillas News Release
Rapid City, SD 10/10/09 - (Rapid City Rush Team Release courtesy of Daniel Nieves) On Saturday night, the Rapid City Rush boasted their high-powered offense once again as they picked up a sweep of the Amarillo Gorillas with a 7-2 victory. Rapid City quickly felt the impact of one of their biggest additions, Colt King who netted a goal in the first minute of the contest.
It took one shift for Colt King to make his presence felt as the power forward was able to sweep home a rebound just 32 seconds into the contest. King's goal was assisted by 2009-10 Captain Luke Fritshaw and Player-Assistant Brendan Cook. The Gorillas knotted the game with a powerplay goal from James Jernberg at the 12:26 mark with Jake Morissette earning the helper. The first period would end tied on the scoreboard while the Rush held a 13-7 shot advantage.
The middle frame would also be an evenly contested period beginning with a crushing hit from Rapid City's Derek Campbell that started the game's first fight. Amarillo's Dan McNeill, sticking up for his teammate, squared off with Campbell for what turned out to be the only fight of the game. Shortly thereafter it was the Gorillas with another goal just over eight minutes in as Jake Morissette picked up his first goal and second point of the evening. The goal gave Amarillo a 2-1 lead, its first of the weekend. The lead didn't last long as just over a minute later, Jim Henkemeyer found the back of the net to tie the games at two. Then at the 15:16 mark, Cook netted the go-ahead goal for Rapid City, one that would eventually be the game-winner.
The third period was all Rush as the home team netted four goals to run away with the weekend's second game. Finding the twine were Blaine Jarvis, Brendon Hodge, Will Bodine and Scott Wray. At the end of 60 minutes, the Rush came away with a 7-2 win and held a 43-23 shot advantage.
