Allen Americans News Release
Salt Lake City, Utah - The Allen Americans and Utah Grizzlies hooked up on Friday night at the Maverik Center in Game 4 of their best of 7 series and came away with a 5-1 win over Utah.
Utah scored first in the opening frame, when forward Cam Reid beat Riley Gill with a shot from the left face-off circle for his first of the playoffs. Austen Brassard and Cole Martin had the assists on the Reid goal. The Americans had the only power play in the opening frame, going 0 for 1.
Neither team scored in the second frame, as Allen outshot Utah 10-9. The Americans had several good scoring chances in that second period, but Utah goalie Kevin Boyle continued his hot play with 10 saves in that period, and 25 through the first 40 minutes.
The Americans really got their game going in the final period, scoring five times, twice on the power play. David Makowski nabbed the first at 2:55 of the third. Then, Eric Roy blasted one past Kevin Boyle, with the man-advantage, for his first of the playoffs to give Allen the lead 2-1. The Americans would score three more times as Greger Hanson (2), Wade MacLeod (2) and Alex Krushelnyski (1) all lit the lamp and the Americans would take a 3-1 series lead after a 5-1 victory.
"We played a much better game today and it paid off in the third period," said Americans forward Greger Hanson. "They played good defensively and Boyle (Kevin) was making some big saves like he has all series, but I had a feeling going into the third that our hard work would get rewarded. Tomorrow is going to be a big challenge as we know we will get their best effort but I like our chances if we compete like we did today. "
Greger Hanson led the way with a three-point night, scoring a goal and adding two assists. Chad Costello and David Makowski both had a two-point game, Joel Chouinard finished the game a +3, and leads the ECHL in plus/minus in the playoffs with a +7. Riley Gill stopped 29 of 30 shots to get the win.
