Americans Elminated from Playoffs in 5-3 Loss to Mudbugs

BOSSIER CITY, LA- The Allen Americans fell to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs Sunday night by a score of 5-3, at the CenturyTel Center in Bossier-Shreveport, Louisiana. With the victory, the Mudbugs will advance to the President's Cup Finals to take on the winner of the Turner Conference Finals.

Bossier-Shreveport got on the board first with a goal from Jim Jorgensen scored just over five minutes into the game.

The 'Bugs added to their lead with a power play goal from David Rutherford with 1:23 left on the clock for the first period. Rutherford skated over the blue line and wired a wrister on goal which alluded Chris Whitley on the blocker side to make it a 2-0 game.

When it looked as though the 'Bugs were going to take a 2-0 lead to the dressing room, Dave Nimmo tipped a Dave Bonk point-shot high to the glove side of goaltender John DeCaro, pulling the Americans to within one.

The 'Bugs grabbed a two-goal lead once again when Rutherford scored his second of the contest at 13:19. Scott Campbell came in to relieve Whitley in goal following the goal.

Jarret Lukin answered for the Americans with a goal from the doorstep at 3:15 of the second, keeping the Americans' hopes alive with his sixth goal of the postseason. Nino Musitelli and Bruce Graham assisted on the goal.

After a push from the Americans, which saw John DeCaro come up huge on several occasions, the Mudbugs went up by two goals once again with a goal from Nick Layton.

With the goaltender pulled, Tobias Whelan scored a beautiful goal to once again bring the Americans to within one. Whelan's tally came with just 1:24 remaining in the contest, with Colton Yellow Horn and Dave Bonk being credited with the assists.

The Mudbugs put the game away late with an empty net goal from veteran Travis Clayton, preserving a 5-3 victory for the home side.
