
Americans Drop a 5-4 Contest in Wichita

Wichita, Kansas - The Allen Americans rally fell a little short on Friday night dropping a 5-4 decision on the road to the Wichita Thunder at INTRUST Bank Arena.
The Americans began a two game weekend series against the Wichita Thunder Friday night with the rematch set for Saturday evening at the Allen Event Center. The Americans came into the game tied for 1st place with the Rapid City Rush and the Rush holding one game in hand over the Americans while Wichita sits in 9th place in the Central Hockey League standings.
Wichita got things rolling early when Tomas Klempa lit the lamp on the first shot of the game at the 36 second mark of the first period, assisted by Matt Summers and Jon Madden to give the Thunder the 1-0 lead. RG Flath then scored to extend the Thunder lead to 2-0, assisted by Matt Summers and Mike Wilson at 8:03 . The Americans cut the Thunder lead in half on Greger Hanson's 11th goal of the season at 11:42, assisted by Kale Kerbashian and Brian McMillin. Wichita regained their two goal lead when Jesse Dudas scored from the point, assisted by Nick McParland and David Brown at 16:37 . Allen held the edge in shots on goal by a 13-7 count but trailed the Thunder on the scoreboard 3-1 after one period of play.
Wichita extended their lead further to 4-1 on Ian Lowe's goal at 7:48 of the second period, assisted by Jon Booras and Matt Robinson. Allen answered back to cut the lead to one with two unanswered goals of their own. First it was Jonathan Lessard's 18th goal of the year, assisted by Kale Kerbashian and Alex Lavoie at the 10:00 mark. Then Kale Kerbashian netted his 15th of the season assisted by Jonathan Lessard and Alex Lavoie at 11:29 . Allen again led in shots on goal for the period at 12-11 for a two period total of 25-18 while Wichita held on to a 4-3 lead.
Near the midway point of the final frame, the Thunder regained their two goal lead on a goal by Nick McParland at 9:34 with assists from Dustin Donaghy and Erick Lizon. Brian McMillin jammed a loose puck in for his 3rd goal of the season, assisted by Jamie Schaafsma and Tyler Ludwig at 16:33 to cut the Thunder lead to one at 5-4 but Allen was unable to finde the evener and fell to the Thunder 5-4. Wichita outshot Allen in the final frame 10-5 but Allen held the three period shot total at 30-28.
Allen returns home to the Allen Event Center where the two clubs will finish out their weekend series on Saturday night, the puck drop is scheduled for 7:05PM .
