American Hockey League Announces 2011-12 Schedule Format

Portland, ME - The American Hockey League announced the scheduling format for the 2011-12 season today. All 76 Portland Pirates regular season games will be contested in the Eastern Conference, with 42 games to be played against Atlantic Division competition.

Included in the schedule are 12 games (six on home ice and six on the road) against the Atlantic Division rivals Manchester Monarchs and Worcester Sharks. The Pirates will also face the Providence Bruins 10 times (five home, five road) and the recently added St. John's franchise eight times (four and four). Even with the division realignment, announced by the league on July 5, Portland will continue to face-off against their traditional Atlantic Division rivals who have switched to the newly formed Northeast Division. These matchups include eight games against the Springfield Falcons and Connecticut Whale (four and four), and six against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (three and three). Also added to the Northeast division slate are the Adirondack Phantoms for four games (two at each site).

The Pirates will play their remaining eight games against teams from the East Division, including four contests (two home, two road) against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, and two games each (one home, one away) against the defending Calder Cup champion Binghamton Senators and Hershey Bears. The complete 2011-12 American Hockey League game schedule is slated for release in August.

The Portland Pirates' 2011-2012 home schedule at the Cumberland County Civic Center will commence on Saturday, October 15th at 7 p.m. The game's opponent will be announced at a later date. The first 2,500 fans attending the game will receive the 2011-2012 Pirates' Collectible Magnet Schedule courtesy of JobsinME.com. Group tickets are now available for the game in quantities of ten or more, with individual game tickets set to go on sale in mid-September.

The Pirates will also host games on Friday, October 28th; Saturday, November 19th; Friday, November 25th; Saturday, December 31st; and Saturday, January 21st all starting at 7 p.m. except for December 31st which will start at 5:30 p.m. The December 31st game will once again feature a spectacular indoor fireworks show as part of the team's annual Kids New Year Celebration, which sold out last season. Saturday, November 19th will see the return of the Pirates' Adopt-a-Dog night presented by Camp Bow Wow. Fans attending the game will have the opportunity to meet a number of local canines in need of a forever home.

Other great promotions that fans can look forward to for the upcoming season are the 2011-2012 version of the Pirates' Collectible Bobblehead Series, Pirates' Baseball Cap Giveaway courtesy of Time Warner Cable, the State Farm Teddy Bear Toss and three Post-Game Skates, presented by Steele Hill Resorts and Mercy Hospital. The Pirates 4th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night Celebration will return in late October with Pirates players donning their special "Pink" jerseys. The season will also see two other specialty-theme jerseys to be announced at a later date. Companies looking to support the Pirates' fight against Breast Cancer can do so by purchasing one of ten "Linemates" programs available from the team. "Linemates" will receive a framed, autographed game-worn jersey from the event as well as a block of tickets for employees or to donate.
