Admirals Release Schedule of Opponents

NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Admirals today released their schedule of opponents for the 2011-12 regular season.
The Admirals will compete in the new East Division with ten games each against long-time division rivals, the Hershey Bears and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The East Division schedule also features eight games against the defending Calder Cup Champion Binghamton Senators and four games against the Syracuse Crunch.
The schedule outside of the East Division is highlighted by eight games apiece against the Adirondack Phantoms, Albany Devils and Charlotte Checkers. The Admirals will square off against a new opponent in 2011-12, as they will play the newest AHL team in St. John's, the top affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets. The schedule also features the return to Scope of the Providence Bruins, top farm team of the Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins, after a two-season absence.
The following teams will be joining the Admirals in the East Division with the amount of home/road games given and NHL affiliate listed in parenthesis:
Binghamton Senators (Ottawa Senators): 4/4
Hershey Bears (Washington Capitals): 5/5
Syracuse Crunch (Anaheim Ducks): 2/2
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (Pittsburgh Penguins): 5/5

The Admirals will play a 76-game schedule in the 2011-12 regular season with 38 home and 38 road games. The complete schedule will be released by the American Hockey League in August. In operation since 1936, the AHL continues to serve as the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. More than 85 percent of today's NHL players are American Hockey League graduates, and for the tenth season in a row, more than six million fans attended AHL games across North America in 2010-11.
