American Baseball Foundation to Hold BASIC Clinic at the Hoover Met

Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Birmingham Barons are proud to announce that the Hoover Met will play host to one of the American Baseball Foundation's BASIC (Baseball & Academic Skills Instructional Course) programs from Monday, June 2nd until Thursday June 6th. This particular program is attempting to target youth from the local Hispanic community and as part of the clinic, several Barons players from Spanish speaking countries will be on hand to help with the instructional part of the on field activities.

The BASIC program stimulates the love for learning couched in a sport environment. Over the last six years the American Baseball Foundation, Inc. (ABF) has focused its disadvantaged youth programs on using sport as a vehicle to nurture learning, and prepare kids to become confident citizens.

Originally implemented as a summer program, for ages 8 to14, BASIC has evolved into an after-school program as well as one that is implemented in school to encourage youngsters to read more often.

Whether in school, after school, or during summer school, BASIC induces children to better themselves through combining learning with a fun, sports environment. Students rotate from reading or math stations to field stations and back again, learning skills that go beyond sports and into the mainstream of contributing citizenship. The American Baseball Foundation can be contacted at (205) 558-4235.
