But the Pelicans and Cats had other plans, as Pensacola battled Fort Worth to a American Association League record 17-inning 2-1 win in game one. Pensacola got on the board early thanks to a solo home run by DH Trino Aguilar in the bottom of the first inning and looked to be well on their way to a close seven-inning win, when Cats 1B Chuck Carter tied the game in the final scheduled frame with a solo shot of his own. Ten innings later, with the score still tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the 17th, Pelicans SS Bo Brown came to the plate with RF/1B Marcos Rodriguez in scoring position and only one out. Brown hit the ball over the shifted-in Fort Worth infield to score Rodriguez and end the longest game in American Association history. Pelicans reliever Logan Williamson picked up his fourth win of the season after pitching the final three innings for Pensacola and allowing no runs on two hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

Game two was postponed due to curfew and will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Saturday, August 4th beginning at 3:05 PM. Both games will consist of seven innings.
