Allentown Ambassadors News Release
The Allentown Ambassadors scored three runs in the top of the ninth, with three two out hits, to come back and beat the North Shore Spirit 6-5 Wednesday night at Fraser Field in Lynn, Massachusetts.
The Ambassadors trailed 5-3 going into the ninth inning, but Kevin Moore singled to lead things off for the Ambassadors. After Joe Ricciardi got two outs, Marlon Roche had an infield single. He was pinch-run for by Jorge Diaz, and then Vic Davilla hit a double down the right field line to score both Moore and Diaz to tie the game. Ryan Bordenick then singled home Davilla to give the Ambassadors the lead. The Spirit made things interesting in the ninth, getting Yuri Sanchez over to third base with one out, but Orlando Encarnacion got Jason Startari to pop-out for the second out. With a two-two count on Carlos Sepulveda at the plate, a ball got away from catcher Moore. But he reacted quickly and threw sliding on his knees to Encarnacion to get Sanchez at the plate to end the game.
The Spirit jumped out to a three to nothing lead in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs off Ambassador starter Tim Davidson. Four hits in the inning, including an RBI double from Frank Charles provided the scoring. The Ambassadors scored two in the top of the fourth, with no hits in the inning. North Shore starter Mike Hoyt walked Dan Singletary with one out in the inning, and then hit Brian Macchi in the helmet. Macchi was down on the field for several minutes, but walked off the field on his own power. He was taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure. Hoyt was also injured on the play, as he had a blister problem, so Wes Crawford came in. Crawford struck out Greg Schmidt, but the ball got away from Spirit catcher Charles and Schmidt reached base while Singletary scored. Moore then struck out, but back-to-back walks to Chris Hafich and Ender Gonzalez followed to force home another run.
The Spirit added a run in the fifth and one in the sixth inning to make the lead 5-2. The Ambassadors scored one in the eighth as a preview of the dramatic ninth inning.
Encarnacion came in in the eighth inning and got the win, his first of the season. Ricciardi took his fourth loss of the year. The win moved the Ambassadors' record to 8-9 on the season. North Shore dropped to 7-9. The Ambassadors ended their road trip with a 2-5 record, and now head home for a seven game homestand with the Elmira Pioneers and New Jersey Jackals. The first game against the Pioneers is on Friday night, game time is 7:05 from Bicentennial Park.
