Allentown Ambassadors News Release

The Allentown Ambassadors got down big early for the second straight night and ended up losing to Berkshire 13-3 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.

Ambassador starter Chris Zallie gave up three runs in the bottom of the first on only one hit, a leadoff double from PJ Johnston. Kevin Forbes then walked, followed by a Pete Paciorek hit by pitch. Then Ryan Jones reached on a Greg Schmidt error. Two runs scored on the play. Paciorek then scored on a Manny Crespo sacrifice fly.

The Black Bears added three more off Zallie in the fourth. Two walks, an error, and a hit batsman again helping the Berkshire cause.

Meanwhile the Ambassadors were unable to get anything off Berkshire starter Tony Harden, who pitched six strong innings, allowing five hits and hitting one batter. He struck out two.

The Black Bears widened the lead off Ambassador reliever Carlos Gonzalez, who gave up seven runs in two innings, all coming after Gonzalez had gotten the first two outs. The Ambassadors would score three runs in the top of the eighth, with a Brian Hafich single followed by a Dan Singletary flyout. Then Marlon Roche walked, and then Vic Davilla hit an RBI double. Ryan Bordenick then walked. Brian Macchi finished the scoring with a two-RBI single.

Davilla finished the night 2-4 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Hafich was also 2-4 with two singles and a run scored. Kevin Moore and Macchi were also 2-4.

The win pushed the Black Bear record to 5-10, while the Ambassadors dropped back to .500 at 6-6. The two teams go at it again tomorrow night in the third of the four game series.
