Rapid City Rush News Release

(Bossier City, LA) - On Wednesday night, the Rapid City Rush took a 2-1 lead in the Northern Conference Finals with a pivotal 3-2 overtime win. Scoring the game-winner was amateur Corey Laurysen who netted his first professional goal, securing Rapid City's first ever win at the CenturyTel Center. The low scoring affair was highlighted by netminders Parker Van Buskirk and Danny Battochio who combined for 76 saves in over 75 minutes of action.

Following the trend from the first two games, the Rush got on the board first with an even strength tally. At the 6:20 mark of the second period, Jon Pelle worked the puck up to the left point where Luke Fritshaw fired a wrist shot that made its way through a screen and found the top-left corner. Just 1:15 later, the Mudbugs picked up their second powerplay chance of the game, and needed only thirteen seconds to convert as Jeff Kyrzakos was able to tie the game from the goal mouth.

The Rush would regain the lead at 9:20 of the third period when Les Reaney found Derek LeBlanc in the high slot, and the second-year pro snapped a wrist shot over the glove of Van Buskirk. Yet again, the Mudbugs would answer on the powerplay, this time it was Chris St. Croix who blasted a slapshot through a screen and into the back of the net. With the game tied after 60 minutes, the Rush and Mudbugs headed to overtime for the second time in three contests.

In the extra period, both sides exchanged opportunities while both goaltenders were up to the task. It took until the 15:35 mark for Cory Laurysen to collect the puck at the point and fire a shot that deflected off of a body in front and through Van Buskirk for the game-winner. The goal marked Laurysen's first professional goal and Rapid City's third overtime win of the postseason.

The Rush and Mudbugs now clash in game four of the conference finals on Friday at 6:05pm MST.
