Connecticut Sun News Release
UNCASVILLE, Conn. - Connecticut Sun forward Alyssa Thomas was selected as a reserve for AT&T WNBA All-Star 2019 on Monday afternoon.
It is the second All-Star selection for Thomas, who will represent the WNBA at the game on July 27 in Las Vegas. It will be broadcast live on ABC at 3:30 p.m. ET. She is joined by teammate Jonquel Jones, who was named a starter on July 11th. She was also an All-Star reserve in 2017.
"I am extremely happy for AT on her All-Star selection," Sun head coach and general manager Curt Miller said. "She is such an important piece with the way we play. She is a tremendous defender and is currently in the top five in steals this season. She is also one of the best facilitating forwards in the league on the offensive end, allowing us to play our exciting style."
Thomas is averaging 11.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, both of which are career-bests for the forward. She leads the team with 34 steals and has also dished out 53 assists. On June 26, Thomas had a career-high 28 points in Dallas while shooting a career-best 12-of-16 from the field. She's scored 20 or more points four times this season and has four double-doubles.
"It's a huge honor," Thomas said. "Not only are we having team success, we are having individual success as well. I'm extremely happy. Hard work is paying off and I'm excited to be able to be there and share this experience with Jonquel."
Thomas is joined by DeWanna Bonner, Tina Charles, Diamond DeShields, Candice Dupree, Sylvia Fowles, Nneka Ogwumike, Allie Quigley, Odyssey Simms, Kristi Toliver, Courtney Vandersloot and Erica Wheeler as All-Star reserves.
The Sun will be in action next on Friday, July 19 when they take on the Atlanta Dream at Mohegan Sun Arena. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. Tickets for all games at Mohegan Sun Arena are available now. Visit ConnecticutSun.com or call 877-SUN-TIXX to purchase.
