Montreal Alouettes News Release
Montreal, September 20, 2003 - Montreal Alouettes' Head Coach Don Matthews has fined Blitz $5,000 for his 10-yard objectionable conduct penalty in the last Alouettes' game, yet owners Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wetenhall have announced they are advancing Blitz the full $6,000 bonus he was anticipated to earn at the end of the season so that he can pay Coach Matthews' fine. The bird was unable to mortgage his nest to raise the money as it's not completed yet.
Matthews fined the mascot after it took a 10-yard objectionable conduct penalty when it "pecked an official," after the Alouettes scored a touchdown in last September 14 game against Ottawa. Matthews did confirm Blitz' return in the line-up for tomorrow's match-up against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Owners Bob and Lisa Wetenhall have been very pleased with the work Blitz has done entertaining fans during games. "He's done an outstanding job with fans from all age groups," Mr. and Mrs. Wetenhall, who hired Blitz in 1999. "We think he's the best mascot there is in professional sports throughout North America and he deserves his bonus."
