Alouettes and Purolator Ask for Help from Supporters to Alleviate Hunger in the Community

July 17, 2019 - Canadian Football League (CFL) - Montreal Alouettes News Release

Montreal - The Montreal Alouettes are calling for the generosity of their supporters on Saturday, July 20, as part of the 17th edition of Purolator Tackle Hunger. The Alouettes will host the Edmonton Eskimos at Percival-Molson Memorial Stadium at 4:00 p.m. and encourage fans to bring non-perishable food items, and make cash or credit card donations for people in need.

Starting at 1:00 p.m., containers will be dropped off at each entrance of the stadium, as Alouettes cheerleaders as well as Moisson Montréal and Purolator's generous volunteers will help collect donations. Healthy staples such as canned fish, lentils, rice and chickpeas are welcomed items.

To thank fans for their generosity, they will also have the opportunity to have their picture taken with the Grey Cup at the Purolator booth located at the east entrance of the stadium.

The first 5000 fans to show up at the stadium will receive a superhero mask. In addition, Purolator is planning to distribute gifts throughout the game, including an autographed Alouettes jersey that will be presented to a lucky fan.

"It gives me the greatest pleasure to support this cause for the second year in a row," proudly said Alouettes linebacker Henoc Mumba. It is unacceptable to think that so many people don't have enough to eat, and that is why I make it my duty to represent the team and gather food in our locker room. It is a cause that is close to my heart and I am happy to help feed children and their families."

Donations collected during the event will support Moisson Montreal, a non-profit organization that distributes food to more than 257 accredited community organizations on the island of Montreal, which is equivalent to 137,000 people, including nearly 45,000 children.

Last year, more than 30,000 pounds of food were collected by the Montreal Alouettes and Purolator for Moisson Montreal. Those unable to attend the game can make a donation to Moisson Montreal by visiting purolatorblitzcontrelafaim.com.
