Montreal Alouettes News Release
Montreal - The Montreal Alouettes announced on Wednesday that the organization has repatriated four Quebecers who will now have the chance to put on an Alouettes uniform and play at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium, as the team signed defensive tackles David Ménard and Junior Luke, as well as linebackers Alexandre Gagné and Frédéric Chagnon.
Ménard (6'1", 259 lbs.) registered 18 quarterback sacks and 55 defensive tackles in 94 career-games with the British Columbia Lions. The 29-year-old Chicoutimi native also intercepted three passes, while knocking down another three. The former Université de Montréal Carabin also forced three fumbles during his career. Drafted in the fourth round (32nd overall) in 2014, he made 12 defensive tackles and two sacks in ten games last season.
Luke (6'3", 291 lbs.) was the BC Lions first round draft pick (seventh overall) in 2017. He played in 53 games with the Lions, registering 25 defensive tackles and four quarterback sacks. In 2019, the former Université de Montréal Carabin amassed nine defensive tackles, one sack, on top of intercepting one pass and knocking down another. The 28-year-old was a member of the Carabins when the team won the Vanier Cup in 2014.
Gagné (6'1", 230 lbs.) represents a nightmare for opposing returners, as the former Université de Sherbrooke Vert et Or registered a team high 19 special teams tackles with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2019, which was good for eighth place in the CFL. The 28-year-old had made 23 special teams tackles the previous season, which was the third highest total in the league.
Chagnon (6'4", 233 lbs.) played 17 games with the BC Lions in 2019, recording six special teams tackles. The Université de Montréal Carabins alumni played 51 career-games in the CFL, amassing 26 special tackles. The 28-year-old Montrealer was drafted in the third round (24th total) by the Lions in 2017. He had helped the Carabins win the Vanier Cup in 2014, at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium.
