Almario And Dickert Lead St. George To Series Win

Yosvany Almario lined a broken bat single in the seventh inning scoring Jermy Acey with the go-ahead run in the St. George RoadRunners' 4-3 victory over Tucson on Sunday night to take the series two games to one.

Almario paced the 14-hit STG attack going 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Brett Flowers, Scott Clement, Carlos Sosa and Henry Calderon each had two hits.

Reed Dickert matched his season-long outing tossing seven innings of three run on six hit ball for the win (2-2). The righty also struck out five while allowing only one walk.

The relief core of Kyle Boggio, Monte Mansfield and Charlie Weatherby scattered one hit over the final two innings. Weatherby notched his first season save in the RoadRunners' 19th game of the year.

Matt Lincoln (0-3) received the loss surrendering the go-ahead run in the STG seventh. Toro starter Cody Walden gave up three runs on seven hits in five frames.

St. George tallied a run in the second after a double from Flowers plated Almario. Tucson tied the game in the bottom half with a Cristobal Santana solo homer.

The Toros took a 3-1 lead in the third. Walden was walked and Josh Womack doubled the lead runner to third. Back-to-back sac flies by Ryan Priddy and Jose Valdez cashed in both men.

The ‘Runners closed to within a run in the fourth inning on a Clement RBI single with two outs. The game knotted at 3-3 when Ruddy Yan scored from third on a Sosa double play ball.

St. George outhit the Toros 14 to seven - Tucson was paced by Womack, Wally Backman Jr. and Santana with two-hit efforts.

A season-long 10-game road trip continues Tuesday night at Iron Maehara Stadium as St. George battles Na Koa Ikaika Maui for the very first time. First pitch against Maui is scheduled for 10:35pm Mountain time. LHP Jon Dutton is expected to make his first start since being reactivated on June 11.

NOTES: Game attendance was 2,536 - for the series, Tucson saw 12,759 people walk through the turnstiles... Acey extended his on-base streak to 19 games with a 5th inning walk and bumped his league-best hitting streak to 15 games with a single in the 9th - the second game in a row the hit came in his last at-bat... The 2-1 series win at Hi-Corbett Field evened the 2010 series with the Toros at three games apiece... The RoadRunners are 6-3 all-time at Hi-Corbett in the regular season.
