Tucson Toros News Release
The Tucson Toros ended their homestand with a 4-3 loss to the St. George RoadRunners Sunday night. The RoadRunners won the series 2-1.
The Toros got a good outing by Tucson native Cody Walden, who allowed 3 earned runs on 7 hits, 1 walk and striking out 1 in his first start at home.
The RoadRunners got on the board first with an RBI double by 1B Brett Flowers. The Toros struck back when Cristobal Santana drilled a solo home run to straight away centerfield for his second of the season. Tucson added two more runs in the 3rd inning after back-to-back sacrifice flies by SS Ryan Priddy and 2B Jose Valdez to go up 3-1.
St. George erased the 2-run deficit with three unanswered runs in the 4th, 5th, and 7th innings to pull ahead and seal the victory 4-3.
Catcher Luis Apodoca had an impressive 5-2-2 double play, tagging out a runner in a rundown play at third and making a diving tag to catch RoadRunners Scott Clement heading back to second base.
Josh Womack, Wally Backman Jr. and Cristobal Santana each recorded two hits. Womack and Santana each finished with a double, while scoring a run.
The Toros will have an off day Monday and will begin a 3 game series in Tijuana against the Cimarrones on Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. first pitch. Tucson will return on Fireworks Friday for their 3 game homestand to face the league leading Chico Outlaws.
