Allen Huge as Freedom Even Series, Win First Ever Playoff Game

SAUGET, IL-Brad Allen(1-0) dominated the Gateway Grizzlies on Thursday night as he struck out a career high nine batters to lead the Florence Freedom to a 4-1 victory over Gateway to even their best of five playoff series at a game a piece.

The Freedom won their first playoff game since the franchise moved to Florence back in 2003. The Freedom will now host games three and four of the series Saturday and Sunday.

Allen went eight innings, allowing just two hits as he retired Gateway 1-2-3 in five out of his eight innings on the mound.

Peter Fatse broke up a scoreless game in the seventh with his RBI double off the left field wall scoring David Harris to give the Freedom a 1-0 lead. Harris then produced a two run single in the eighth which put the Freedom ahead 3-0. The Freedom scored their last run in the ninth when Pierre LePage was hit with a bases loaded pitch that forced home Drew Rundle.

Jorge Marban entered the game for the Freedom in the ninth. He allowed a two out solo homerun to Jon Myers, which broke up the Freedom shutout. Marban then ended the game by getting Landon Hernandez to fly out to shortstop Junior Arrojo in short left field.

The series shifts to Florence as the Freedom host Gateway on Saturday night. RHP Andy Clark (2-1,2.41) will make the start for Florence. RHP Chris Enourato (5-4, 5.13) will take the mound for the Grizzlies.

The game can be heard with Steve Jarnicki starting at 5:50 on Christian Talk 1050 AM and christiantalk1050.com The game will air on 1050 AM due to a previous engagement to carry the Notre Dame football game against Purdue.
