
Allen Comeback Beats RiverKings

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- Ryan Fairbarn's goal nearly mid way through the final period completed a comeback from two goals down by the Allen Americans, who went on to defeat the Mississippi RiverKings 3-2 in a Central Hockey League game at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven on Tuesday, February second.
The loss was the RiverKings' second straight loss entering a Friday night rematch February fifth in the northeast Dallas suburb. Mississippi has still won five of its last seven games.
RiverKings' forward Ryan Held opened the scoring with a diving effort in the slot for his 20th goal of the season at 2:38 of the first period.
Glenn Detulleo made the score 2-0 for the RiverKings with a power play goal at 16:56. The goal was Detulleo's sixth of the season and second with Mississippi.
The second period belonged to Americans' forward Nino Musitelli, whose two goals in the frame turned the tide and tied the contest at 2-2 going into the final period.
Musitelli's first goal came at the 3:21 mark and got the Americans within a goal at 2-1. His next tally over six minutes later at 9:40 knotted the game at 2-2. His power play goal to even the contest was his 15th goal of the season.
Fairbarn then provided the game-winning goal for Allen at 8:14 of the third frame for the final score.
In the contest, Mississippi was 1-for-8 on the power play, while Allen scored once in seven extra man chances.
Tim Boron took the loss in net for Mississippi with a 26 save performance. Chris Whitley was the winning goaltender for the Americans with a 32-save performance.
With the loss, the RiverKings now have a 22-17-4 record, but are still in fourth place in the CHL Northern Conference standings. Allen moved their record to 29-10-3 and remain in the second place in the CHL Southern Conference standings.
Next action for the RiverKings will come Friday night in a return game against the Americans in Allen at 7:30 PM.
The RiverKings will return home to face the Wichita Thunder on Saturday, February 6at 7:05 PM in the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven. It will be Guns and Hoses Night, supporting area law enforcement and firefighters. Southland Park Gaming and Racing will also be on hand along with Mid-South Greyhound Adoption Option. Special jerseys will be worn, which will be auctioned off at the end of the game. There will also be a post-game skate for fans after the contest.
