
Ramsay Stays Hot In Jacks 5-2 Win

(Odessa, TX) - Mike Ramsay's two power play goals was the highlight as the Odessa Jackalopes beat the Corpus Christi IceRays on Tuesday, 5-2, at the Ector County Coliseum. The Jackalopes finished the night with three power play goals and Ramsay has now scored seven goals in the last five games. The Jackalopes improved their record to 35-6-4 on the season.
Ramsay's goals came in the first and third periods. Juha Toivonen stopped 33 of 35 shots to win his 17th game of the season, and his 10th in the last 11 games. With the win, Odessa has matched their season-high with an 11-game unbeaten streak (10-0-1).
The Jackalopes took early control of the game with a pair of power play goals in the first period. Jeff Pierce deflected Phil Plante's shot from the point at 10:16 for his 22nd of the season. Ramsay then ripped a slap shot from the right circle on a rush at 13:31 to make it a 2-0 lead for the Jackalopes. Dominic Leveille and Kenny Bernard added the assists.
Both teams exchanged goals in the second period as Brian Swiniarski tapped one home from the front of the net to make it 3-0, Odessa. Swiniarski's goal was the result of a centering pass from Thinel in the right-wing corner at 6:26. Ryan Bennett put the IceRays on the board with his sixth of the season on an odd-man rush from Chris Richards. The score was 3-1 entering the break favoring the Jackalopes.
In the final frame Leveille made it a 4-1 lead for Odessa on a 2-on-1 with Thinel at 9:44. Ramsay's third period, power play goal was a one-timer from the left circle on a cross-ice pass from Bernard at 12:01. RG Flath scored on a loose puck in the crease with Toivonen out of position at 16:49 to close the game's scoring.
Leveille and Thinel each finished the game with three points to lead all skaters. Pierce's first period goal matched his total from last season when he scored 22 goals in 64 games for the Jackalopes. The game also featured three different fights between the two teams.
The Jackalopes wrap up their homestand with a pair of weekend games against the Colorado Eagles starting Friday at 7:05 PM. Odessa and Colorado are both in first place in their respective conferences. The action can be heard on 102.1 Jack FM.
