March 25, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
GLENDALE, AZ (March 24, 2013) - The Allen Americans have won the Bud Poile Governors' Cup as the Central Hockey League's 2012-13 regular season points champions.
The Americans (39-18-9, 87 points) earn the Governors' Cup thanks to their 3-2 win at Tulsa on the regular season's final day. Allen entered play on Sunday leading Wichita by one point with the Thunder hosting the Missouri Mavericks.
It marks the second time in the past three seasons the Americans have won the regular season title, went 47-16-3 (97 points) during the 2010-11 season.
Allen earns home-ice advantage for as long as they are in the playoffs and will face the Denver Cutthroats in the Opening Round of the post-season. The Americans have qualified for the playoffs in all four of the franchise's seasons and all-time they are 167-69-26 in regular season play. The Americans advanced to the CHL Finals in 2010 but fell to the Rapid City Rush in their only Finals appearance.
The Governor's Cup carries the name of Norman Robert "Bud' Poile who served the hockey world as a player, coach, general manager and league executive. Prior to his retirement in 1989, the late Bud Poile served as the President of the Central Hockey League.
