GAME RECAPS
FRIDAY, JAN. 29 vs. CRP (W 6-3): Allen beat the IceRays in a high-scoring contest. The Americans have a 4-1-0 record against Corpus Christi. Even though Corpus Christi struck first, the Americans responded with two goals from Mick Berge and Jordie Benn before the first period ended. Chris Kaufman led the second period with a goal before the IceRays nabbed one to make the score 3-2. Captain Jarret Lukin then scored two straight goals to increase the Americans' lead to 5-2. Corpus Christi got one more goal before Nino Musitelli finished scoring.
SATURDAY, JAN. 30 @ MIZ (L 3-0): The Americans traveled back to Missouri for the second time in two weeks and lost 3-0 to the Mavericks. After 18 minutes of scoreless play, the Mavericks managed to score back-to-back power play goals before the first intermission. Missouri grabbed another to start the second, and the Americans got going too late in the game. Charlie Effinger made 27 saves.
UPCOMING GAMES
TUESDAY, FEB. 2 @ MIS at 7:05 p.m.: The Americans travel to Mississippi to begin the week before hosting the team Friday. Allen is 1-1-0 against the RiverKings. The last time the Americans played in Southaven, the club won in a shootout 4-3. Justin Bowers and Nino Musitelli lead the Americans with three points against the RiverKings. Mississippi is 22-16-4 (48 points) and sits in fourth in the Northern Conference.
FRIDAY, FEB. 5 vs. MIS at 7:30 p.m.: To finish the home-and-home series with Mississippi, the Americans host the Northern Conference team at the Allen Event Center for the first time. The RiverKings handed Allen a 3-1 loss the last time they traveled to Allen.
SATURDAY, FEB. 6 vs. RGV at 7:30 p.m.: The Americans finish the week with a game against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at home. The Americans defeated the Killer Bees in previous meetings 4-2 and 5-2 Nov. 29 and Dec. 4, respectively. Rio Grande Valley is 18-18-6 (42 points).
Bowers Called Up to Abbotsford: Forward Justin Bowers was called up to the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Heat Jan. 28. Bowers becomes the second player in Americans history to be called up to the AHL. The Heat, the AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, had games Friday and Saturday against the Texas Stars at the Cedar Park Center and one today against the Houston Aeros at the Toyota Center.
Jersey Debuts at Home Fuel Wins: The Americans debuted their silver third jerseys Jan. 23 on home ice and defeated the Mudbugs 5-1, giving the team an undefeated record in the new sweaters. The club then donned its all-blue jersey Jan. 29 and beat the IceRays 6-3.
Love the Lead: The Americans continue to dominate when leading after 40 minutes of play. Allen is 19-1-0 when it leads after two periods.
Kaufman Continues to be Among Plus/Minus Leaders: Defenseman Chris Kaufman is fifth in the league in plus/minus and second among defensemen with +20 in 32 games. Kaufman has 12 points for the Americans this season (5 goals, 7 assists).
Whitley Continues to Lead League: Rookie goaltender Chris Whitley continues to lead the league in wins with 20.
Leading Lukin & Must Have Musitelli: Americans Captain Jarret Lukin and forward Nino Musitelli each have six points in the past five games. Lukin has gone +6, while Musitelli is +1.
Roster Moves: Forwards Nathan O'Nabigon and Mick Berge were activated from IR Jan. 29, and defenseman Kurtis Dulle was traded to Corpus Christi for future considerations.
The club signed defenseman Mike Salekin Jan. 25. The newcomer was +1 in his first game Jan. 29 against Corpus Christi and he dropped the gloves in the Jan. 30 contest in Missouri.
Sean Perkins was activated from IR Jan. 24 and then placed on waivers. Forward Bill Loupee was also placed on waivers Jan. 24.
