Arizona Sundogs News Release

The Arizona Sundogs (15-24-4) sit just eight points back of the Corpus Christi IceRays, the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees and the Southern Conference's fifth and final playoff spot after earning five of a possible six points in a three-game road trip against the Odessa Jackalopes and Amarillo Gorillas last week. Riding a two-game win streak, Arizona battles the Northern Conference-leading Rapid City Rush Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley.

Sundogs Storylines:

- The Arizona Sundogs climbed back to.500 on the road (10-10-3) this season with a pair of wins against the Odessa Jackalopes and Amarillo Gorillas. The Sundogs finished the month of January away from home with a 4-3-1 record, their first above.500 all season, and finished the month at 6-6-1 overall, their first month at.500.

- The Sundogs are unbeaten (14-0-1) when leading after two periods of play. When trailing after two periods, Arizona has yet to win a game (0-20-2).

- Recently-acquired forward Chad Hinz collected seven points (2g/5a) in Arizona's three games last week helping the club to a 2-0-1 record. Both his goals were game-winners, the first coming in the fifth round of a shootout in Saturday's 6-5 win over Odessa, and the other coming in a 3-2 win over Amarillo on Sunday. The veteran has eight points (3g/5a) in five games with the Sundogs. On the season, Hinz is averaging a point per game with 37 points (12g/25a) in as many contests.

- Arizona tallied a single-game season-best three power-play goals in Saturday's 6-5 shootout win over Odessa. The team's power-play (14.14%) is up to tenth-best in the CHL.

- Kyle Hood tallied his team-leading second shorthanded goal of the season in Saturday's 6-5 shootout win over Odessa. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound forward has registered career-highs in goals (10), assists (21) and points (31) this season.

- After a ten-game goal scoring drought, Linus Fagemo has picked up three goals in his last two games.

- Marc Belanger has been held scoreless just twice in nine games since being acquired by the Sundogs in a trade with the Wichita Thunder. The Nanaimo, British Columbia, native is averaging more than a point per game with Arizona, tallying four goals and seven assists in nine games.

- Veteran defenseman and player/assistant coach Chris Bartolone had his regular season consecutive games played streak snapped at 232 contests after going on the 14-day I.R. on January 23.

- After going winless in his first two starts with Arizona, goaltender Doug Groenestege is riding a two-game win streak and is unbeaten in his last three starts (2-0-1). On the year, Groenestege is 10-7-2 with two shutouts and a 3.50 goals against average and a.883 save percentage.
