Toronto Argonauts News Release
Mississauga - The Toronto Argonauts Football Club now has every starter from their 2005 offensive line under contract. East Division All-Star Jude St. John has signed a long-term agreement with the club, keeping him under contract through the 2009 season.
St. John was enthusiastic about staying in Toronto, "Going into free agency, my hopes were that I could re-sign with the Argos so that I could retire in Toronto. I'll be 37 when this contract runs out and I expect this to be the last one, but you never know. Since our new ownership has taken over, I've seen remarkable improvements in how the team is run and how well the team has done on the field. I'm happy to help the team return to our winning ways."
A 2005 All-Star, Jude St. John had an outstanding season with the Double Blue. He was voted the club's Lineman of the Year by the Toronto contingent of the Football Reporters of Canada and he filled the role as a team leader beginning in training camp. One of the team's longest-serving players, St. John enters his ninth consecutive season in Toronto and has dressed in 131 games over that span. In 2004, Jude ended his streak as the player with the most CFL seasons without a Grey Cup appearance, a streak that began when he joined the league in 1995.
An avid public speaker and community leader, Jude lives in London with his wife Nicole and their five children: Ena, Adele, Mara, Judah and baby Arwen, born this off-season. Jude is also an avid outdoorsman who likes spending time with his Labrador retriever Racer.
The Toronto Argonauts also announced today that OL David Porter, who originally joined the team just prior to the 2005 East Championship at Rogers Centre, has re-signed with the club. Additionally, Canadian OL Jeffrey Yorga has signed with Toronto and will also attend training camp in May. For information on each of these players please visit www.argonauts.ca .
The Toronto Argonauts are North America's oldest professional football club, having celebrated their 130th anniversary in 2003. The Toronto Argonauts have 15 Grey Cup championships to their credit.
