All-Star Goaltender Joins Ice Dogs
July 23, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release
LONG BEACH, Calif. â Ice Dogs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Malcolm Cameron, announced today he has agreed to terms with goaltender Chris Madden. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 6-foot-1, 180 pound native of Liverpool, New York was a 4th round draft pick, 97th overall, by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 1998 NHL entry draft. Madden was named MVP of the Memorial Cup in 1998 while playing for the Guelph Storm of the OHL. He also brings 55 games of AHL experience and an All-Star season in the ECHL to Long Beach, which looks to be a top contender in the West Division this year.
Madden began his professional career in the 2000-2001 season, playing 26 games for the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL. That year he posted a record of 9-11-3 with a 3.12 goals against average and 90.9 save percentage. The following season he played 52 games for the Macon Whoopee of the ECHL, where he went 20-24-7 with a 2.90 goals against average, 3 shutouts and a 91.3 save percentage. That season he was named to the Southern Conference All-Star Team and won Goalie-Of-The-Week honors in December, 2001. He also spent time with the Milwaukee Admirals and Toronto Roadrunners of the AHL, as well as one game with the Augusta Lynx last season.
"Chris is a premier goalie at our level with very solid AHL experience who has been a part of a championship team", said Cameron. "He's a quality player, quality person, and he'll be the backbone of our team this year."
"I'm looking forward to coming out to California and playing for the Ice Dogs", said Madden. "The ECHL is a great league that will hopefully help me advance to the next level."
Season tickets for the 2004-2005 season are on sale now in all price ranges. Fans who pay in full by August 1st will receive an exclusive season ticket holder jersey. The Ice Dogs are also guaranteeing the playoffs or season ticket holders will receive a $50 rebate on each seat purchased. Call (562) ICE-DOGS or visit www.icedogs.com for more information.
