April 3, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - As a kickoff to Durham Bulls Athletic Park's 20th Anniversary celebration, fans had the chance to name the All-DBAP Team - a starting lineup of the best players to don a Bulls uniform at the iconic ballpark. After voting on a position a week for the last nine weeks, Bulls fans have spoken and the All-DBAP Team is now complete.
Toby Hall was the first player to earn the fans' vote, securing the nod at catcher after appearing in 163 games for the franchise from 2000-2002. The following week Chris Richard, the franchise's all-time Triple-A leader in home runs (84), RBIs (299) and doubles (117), was voted the team's first baseman.
At second base, Brooks Badeaux earned the nod after winning back-to-back Governors' Cup championships in 2002 and 2003. MLB All-Star Evan Longoria was the fans' choice at third base, while shortstop belonged to Ben Zobrist, who hit .301 over parts of three seasons in the Bull City.
Jon Weber, Carl Crawford and Justin Ruggiano were the three selections in the outfield. The fan-favorite Weber spent parts of three seasons with the Bulls, tallying 30 homers over 264 career games. Crawford, the 2002 International League Rookie of the Year, stole 26 bases in 85 games that season, his lone season in Durham. The franchise's all-time Triple-A leader in runs scored (304) and hits (531), Ruggiano played for the Bulls from 2007-2011, while leading the team in postseason batting average in the Triple-A National Championship run in 2009.
On the mound, 2013 IL Most Valuable Pitcher J.D. Martin earned starting pitcher honors. That year the right-hander set a single-season Triple-A franchise record with 16 wins, while going 7-0 over his final 11 starts to help lead the Bulls to the division title. Lee Gardner was selected as the squad's relief pitcher after amassing a franchise-record 77 saves over parts of five seasons in the early 2000s, while saving 15 games or more three times.
Voted as the squad's manager, Charlie Montoyo won a franchise-record 633 games over eight seasons from 2007-2014. A two-time IL Manager of the Year, he took the Bulls to a league-record six Governors' Cup finals, winning two.
The All-DBAP Team will be highlighted throughout the team's #DBAP20 celebration, appearing on Mini Plan giveaways and features throughout the ballpark.
The Durham Bulls open the 2015 International League campaign on the road on April 9 before returning to the DBAP for the ballpark's 20th Anniversary season opener on Wednesday, April 15. Full season, Mini Plan, and group ticket packages for the 2015 season are available now. Full tournament passes for the 2015 ACC Baseball Championship at the DBAP are also on sale now.
