Alexander, Cutters Fold Aces

New Haven County Cutters News Release


West Haven- The New Haven county Cutters opened up their home schedule as they did on the road, with a win. Left-hander Jordy Alexander (1-0) surrendered just one run over six innings, striking out eight as the Cutters improved to 5-0 on the young season with a 6-2 victory over the Aces. Aces starter Geronimo Mendoza (0-1) allowed just 1 earned run over 4 1/3 innings but takes the loss.

After having the bases loaded with nobody out and failing to score in the 2nd, the Cutters broke a scoreless tie in the 3rd on Billy Rich's RBI double scoring Gavin Fingleson. The Aces would quickly tie the score at one in the top of the 4th on Vohanny Valera's RBI single plating Mike Davis who had earlier doubled.

New Haven responded in the 5th with two runs aided by Aces fielding miscues. With runners on first and second and one out, Aces shortstop Eustaquio Garcia couldn't handle Kevin Forbes ground ball allowing Billy Rich to score from second. One batter later, Adam Shorsher hit a sharp grounder to third that got passed Dalmiro Quezada scoring Hector Lebron and giving the Cutters a 3-1 lead.

New Haven would add another run in the 6th to go up 4-1 on a RBI single by P.J. Johnston. The Aces would draw within two in the 8th on Stephen Larkin's two out RBI single, but the Cutters tacked on two insurance runs in the bottom of the inning on a RBI sac fly by Kevin Forbes and a RBI single from Adam Shorsher.

Tim Keinath, A.J. Brack, and Shane Waroff combined to pitch the final three innings allowing just one unearned run. First basemen Hector Lebron went 3 for 3 with two walks and third basemen Ryan Kane continued his torrid pace going 3 for 5 with two doubles.
