Albuquerque Sweeps Doubleheader Over Salt Lake

Albuquerque, NM - Jonathan Morales walked-off Game 1 with an RBI single to left while Riley Smith tossed a shutout in Game 2 as the Isotopes swept the twin-bill over the Bees Saturday night.

Game 1 - With the game tied at 5-5 and runners at the corners in the bottom of the seventh, Morales grounded an RBI single to left for a 6-5 walk-off win over the Bees in Game 1.

Offensively, the Isotopes tallied 12 hits, one homer, one triple and one double. Morales had a game-high four hits and the walk-off RBI. Coco Montes recorded three hits and scored a run. LJ Hatch homered while Wynton Bernard tallied two RBI.

The Bees plated the first run of the game in the second on a throwing error but the Isotopes grabbed a 3-1 lead in the home half on a D.J. Peterson RBI single and Bernard two-run double.

Albuquerque extended its lead in the third, taking a 4-1 advantage. Montero tripled to center field and then scored via an error on a pickoff throw by the catcher.

In the top of the fourth, Salt Lake cut into the deficit with two runs on a wild pitch and RBI single by Kean Wong. But the Isotopes got one back on Hatch's solo clout to push the home team's lead to 5-3.

Salt Lake plated single runs in the fifth and sixth to tie before Morales' walk-off RBI single in the seventh.

José Ureña did not factor into the decision after tossing 3.1 innings and allowing three runs on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

Game 2 -Smith tossed seven shutout innings and held the Bees to just four hits while Montero tallied three RBI, including a two-run blast, to take Game 2 4-0.

Smith fired 7.0 shutout innings while fanning seven batters. Ryan Vilade had two of the five Isotopes hits. Dom Nuñez, Montero and Sam Hilliard each had one.

The Isotopes jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning behind Montero's two-run clout.

In the sixth, Albuquerque added two insurance runs on a Nuñez RBI double and Montero sac fly.

Topes Scope: - The Isotopes completed their second walk-off of the year in Game 1-both coming off the bat of Morales. The first came on May 29 against Round Rock via an RBI double.

-Smith crecorded the first complete game shutout since Eddie Butler on Aug. 9, 2016, also a seven-inning contest.

-The Isotopes completed their first shutout since Aug. 21, 2019, at Sacramento. The last one at home came on April 19, 2019 vs. Tacoma.

-Albuquerque has won six games in-a-row-the longest winning streak since July 9-15, 2021, also six games.

-The 2:06 rain delay is the third-longest in Isotopes Park history. The longest was 2:45 on Aug. 9, 2019, which resulted in a 9:20 pm first pitch.

-Game 2 started at 10:20 pm-the latest first pitch time in Isotopes Park history.

-The Isotopes swept their first doubleheader since Aug. 1, 2021, against Salt Lake.

-Albuquerque is now 3-1-3 in doubleheaders against the Bees all time. -Overall, the Isotopes are 16-20-39 in doubleheaders and 8-9-13 at Isotopes Park.

-The Isotopes have now won 10 of the last 11 games against the Bees at Isotopes Park, dating back to July 29, 2021.

-Morales' four hits in Game 1 are a season-high. It was just his third career game with at least four hits and one shy of his career-high (5, Aug. 13, 2016 with Low-A Rome).

-Montero extended his hit streak to 14 games-the longest active streak in the PCL-with a triple in Game 1 and two-run blast in Game 2. He is three away from tying the PCL season-high of 17 set by J.J. Matijevic.

-Carlos Pérez' 28-game on-base streak came to an end after an 0-for-4 performance. During the streak, he slashed .298/.393/.606 (31x104) with seven homers, 21 RBI, 15 walks and nine doubles.

-Boswell's three-game homer streak came to an end in Game 1. He was the third Isotopes player to homer in three-straight. It is tied for the second-longest streak in the PCL.

-Hatch swatted his third homer of the season and first since June 4, 13 at-bats.

-Montes tallied his fourth three-hit effort in Game 1.

-With his double in Game 2, Ryan Vilade collected his 500th professional hit.

-Smith tallied his third quality start of the year and the ninth for the Isotopes staff.

-Montero recorded his fourth three RBI game of the year. On Deck: The Isotopes and Bees will play the series finale at 6:05 pm Sunday. Albuquerque is scheduled to send Brandon Gold to the mound while Salt Lake is expected to start Jason Junk.
