FIVE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS WEEK

After a six game road trip, the Albany Devils return to Times Union Center for three consecutive outings this week. The Devils, who haven't played at home since a 3-2 victory against Adirondack on Mar. 10, host St. John's Wednesday, Hershey Friday and Portland Saturday. All three games are slated for 7 pm.

Entering the week, the Devils are six points out of seventh and eighth place in the Eastern Conference. The team is tied for third in the Northeast Division and tied for 11th in the conference at 27-25-1-10 (65 pts.), including an 11-11-0-6 home mark and a 16-14-1-4 road record.

St. John's is fifth in the Atlantic Division and tied for 14th in the Eastern Conference at 27-33-1-4 (59 pts.) with a 16-16-0-1 away showing. Hershey is tied for third in the East Division and tied for seventh in the conference at 34-28-2-1 (71 pts.), including a 15-11-0-4 road record. Portland is second in the Atlantic Division and fifth in the conference at 35-24-3-2 (75 pts.) with a 13-16-1-1 road mark.

With 13 games remaining in the regular season, several Devils have already tied or surpassed career totals. Joe Whitney has registered a career-high 22 goals, while tying his mark of 44 points from last season. Mike Sislo and Darcy Zajac have tied their career-highs with nine and eight goals, respectively. Brandon Burlon's 16 points is his highest offensive output, while fellow blueliner Dan Kelly's eight points also mark a career best. Chris McKelvie has totaled a career-high three goals and nine assists for 12 points.

Wednesday's game features "Dollar Dawg Night" with hot dogs and small sodas for $1 each. Friday is "SEFCU College Night" with $10 tickets available to all college students with proper identification. The night also includes a Happy Hour between 6-7 pm with $2 domestic drafts for all adults 21-or-older.

NOTES & NUMBERS

- The Devils are outscoring opponents, 64-54, during the third period. The team is averaging 1.02 goals, while posting a 0.86 goals-against average during the third frame.

- Albany is 19-5-1-4 when scoring first, 13-5-0-1 when leading after the first period and 18- 0-0-1 when leading after the second.

- The Devils are 25-2-0-3 when scoring three-or-more goals and 24-9-1-7 when allowing three-or-fewer goals.

- Matt Anderson potted a pair of goals this weekend, scoring Friday and Saturday. Anderson, who is second on the team with 40 points, is second all-time in franchise history with 126 points and 80 assists in 190 games. He trails Stephen Gionta in both categories. Gionta has 140 points and 82 assists in 371 outings.

- Joe Whitney, who leads the team with 44 points and 22 goals, has at least one point in nine of the last 10 games. During that span, he has notched six goals and six assists. During the last 14 contests, the second year pro has totaled 10 goals and seven assists.

- Corbin McPherson leads the team with 59 consecutive games played. Alexander Urbom and Steve Zalewski are next with 55 straight games logged. Zalewski has appeared in a team-high 61 outings.

- On Saturday, Jeff Frazee, who made his NHL debut at Carolina on Mar. 9, made his first AHL start Saturday since a win at Adirondack on Mar. 3. This season he is 7-10-4 with a 2.36 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage in 22 appearances.

- Rookie David Wohlberg has two goals in the last three games. He netted his first goal of the season at Binghamton Friday and followed with a tally at Bridgeport Sunday.

- Seven of Mike Sislo's nine goals this season have come during the last 15 games.

- Jean-Sebastien Berube, who made his AHL season debut at Rochester on Mar. 15, has played in five of the last six contests.

- Stefan Stepanov, who Albany signed on Feb. 5, made his AHL debut Saturday.

Matt Anderson and David Wohlberg both scored during the Devils 5-2 setback against the Senators Friday at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. In his fourth consecutive appearance, Keith Kinkaid made 23 saves.

Binghamton's Shane Prince, Cole Schneider and Mike Hoffman helped the Senators jump out to a 3-0 advantage. Prince opened the scoring at 15:27 of the first on the power play. Schneider and Hoffman followed with goals at 3:13 and 4:01 of the second, respectively.

Moments later, Anderson got the Devils on the board with a wrist shot from the high slot at 10:48 and Wohlberg scored at 11:56 to make the score 3-2. Before the end of the period, Binghamton's Corey Cowick scored on a two-on-one, shorthanded chance at 13:58. Schneider concluded the scoring with an empty-net goal at 18:51 of the third.

Jeff Frazee turned aside 33 shots on 36 attempts, but the Devils fell, 3-1, against the Crunch at the War Memorial at OnCenter. Frazee was tested early, making 11 stops in the first period. He followed with nine in the second and 10 in the third. Syracuse's Riku Helenius registered his 16th win of the year. He made 27 saves on 28 shots.

The Crunch received first period goals from Vladislav Namestnikov at 13:39 and from Dan Sexton at 14:25. In the second, J.T. Brown moved the score to 3-0 at 14:00.

Matt Anderson spoiled Helenius' shutout bid, scoring with 53.2 seconds remaining in regulation. Joe Whitney and Eric Gelinas were credited with the assists on the power-play goal.

In the final game of their six-game road trip, the Devils lost, 4-2, to the Sound Tigers Sunday at Webster Bank Arena. Mike Sislo and David Wohlberg both scored and Keith Kinkaid stopped 27 shots.

Bridgeport's Jordan Hill led his team with a pair of goals, while Sean Backman and Ty Wishart each potted power-play tallies. In goal, Rick DiPietro denied 19 of 21 attempts.

Hill and Backman netted the game's first two goals at 10:37 and 13:46 of the first. Before the end of the period, Sislo got Albany on the board with a quick wrister at 19:36 off a fast break. In the second, the Sound Tigers added to their lead when Hill scored at 9:16 and Wishart found the back of the net at 16:18. Wohlberg responded on a delayed penalty at 19:15.

Mar. 27 vs. St. John's IceCaps (Times Union Center)

The IceCaps, who are 4-4-0-2 in their last 10 outings, are coming off a 2-1-0-0 week. They split a pair of games at Portland, losing 5-2 Friday and winning 4-1 Saturday. St. John's capped off the weekend with a 4-3 win at Manchester Sunday.

Eric O'Dell and Jason Jaffray lead the IceCaps with 44 and 38 points, respectively. O'Dell has 24 tallies and 20 assists, while Jaffary has 13 goals and 25 helpers. Kael Mouillierat is third with 35 points, backed by nine goals and 26 assists.

Mark Dekanich and Eddie Pasquale have shared goaltending duties. Dekanich is 12- 12-0 with a 3.07 goals-against average and a .893 save percentage. Pasquale is 14-21-4 with a 2.69 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage.

Mar. 29 vs. Hershey Bears (Times Union Center)

In three games last week, the Bears went 1-1-0-1. They lost in a shootout at Connecticut, 3-2, Friday and fell at Manchester, 6-4, Saturday. Hershey rebounded with a home win against Worcester, 4-1, Sunday. The Bears are 5-4-0- 1 in their last 10 contests.

Jeff Taffe is tied for the league lead with 60 points, backed by 18 goals and 42 assists. Of his 60 points, 22 (6g-16a) have come on the power play. Casey Wellman has 44 AHL points this season, producing 21 for Hershey and 23 for San Antonio. While with the Bears, he has seven goals and 14 assists in 22 outings.

Hershey has relied on the goaltending duo of Philipp Grubauer and Dany Sabourin. Grubauer is 10-6-2 with a 2.09 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage, while Sabourin is 9-10-3 with a 2.71 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage.

Mar. 30 vs. Portland Pirates (Times Union Center)

The Pirates went 1-2-0-0 in three games last week, including a 5-2 victory against St. John's Friday. Portland then lost to St. John's, 4-1, Saturday and fell at Adirondack, 4-2, Sunday. The Pirates are 3-5-2-0 in their last 10 games.

Alexandre Bolduc leads Portland with 47 points, including 23 goals and 24 assists. Andy Miele and rookie Chris Brown rank second and third among active Pirates with 39 and 36 points, respectively. Miele has 14 goals and 25 helpers, while Brown has 24 goals and 12 assists.

Mike Lee and Mark Visentin make up the team's current goaltending tandem. Lee is 6-3-0 with a 2.76 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage. Visentin is 12-11-1 with a 2.92 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage.
