Albany Firebirds News Release
Albany, N.Y. May 12, 2004 â The Albany Conquest, who three weeks ago lost a thriller to the Louisville Fire 62-56 at Pepsi Arena, will have the chance to gain some payback this Saturday when they travel to face the Fire at 7:30 p.m. at Freedom Hall in Louisville, KY. The game will be televised live on UPN Capital Region and heard live on 104.5 The Buzz.
The Albany Conquest (1-4) will be under the direction of new head coach, Rick Buffington, and are eager to keep their win streak alive after recording their first victory of the season against previously undefeated Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers, 52-45 on May 8. The Conquest earned the win under the guidance of interim Head Coach Dave Bochette, who has returned to his role as Assistant Head Coach. The Conquest were led by quarterback D Bryant, who earned Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game honors, rushing for three TDs, which tied a Conquest single-game record established by Ryan Vena. On the season, Bryant is 25-of-40 passing for 337 yards with five touchdowns passes and just one interception.
Bryant and the Conquest offense will look to build on their performance in last week's win against a Fire defense that ranks 24th in the league against the run (42.2 yards per game). Louisville, however, has a strong pass defense led by defensive specialist Justin Thomas. Thomas ranks first in af2 in passed defended (19) and tackles (36.5). He also has two interceptions, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovered.
Saturday's game will be Louisville's (4-1) first at home since April 16 when they defeated the Macon Knights, 78-42 at Freedom Hall.
The Conquest's next home game is against the Macon Knights on Saturday, May 22 at 7 p.m. at Pepsi Arena. Albany Conquest fans can purchase tickets, including a new "Pick 4 Ticket Package with Bon Jovi," at the Pepsi Arena box office, by visiting www.albanyconquest.com or by calling 518-487-2081 or 518-487-2085. In addition, individual game tickets can be purchased through TicketMaster by calling 518-476-1000. The Pick 4 Ticket Package offers fans the ability to select four of the Conquest's remaining five home games, including the July 23rd game featuring a special one-hour performance by Bon Jovi.
