Alaska Aces News Release
LONG BEACH, Calif. â Dan Murphy recorded 21 saves and Jordan Cameron contributed a goal and an assist as the Alaska Aces edged the Ice Dogs 3-2 Wednesday in front of 1,449 at Long Beach Arena.
Similar to the night before against Bakersfield, the first period scoring came in bunches, with three goals scored over a span of just 2:34 and Alaska owning a 2-1 lead at the end of the frame. Operating from behind the net, Wes Dorey banged the puck off Cameron and past Long Beach goalie T.J. Aceti for a 1-0 Aces lead at 12:37. Kevin McDonald ripped home a one-timer for the equalizer with 5:46 left in the period directly off a draw won by Nolan Graham, traded to Long Beach by Alaska in mid-December. 57 seconds later, Dave Csumrik punched in his own rebound from the left circle and the Aces had regained the lead heading into intermission.
Cameron fed Kimbi Daniels between the hash marks for a one-timer just 58 seconds into the second period, giving Alaska a 3-1 bulge, only to see Mike Ouelllet flick a loose puck in front past Murphy to bring the Ice Dogs within a goal at the 7:38 mark. Neither team cracked double digits in shots on goal during any one period, and Long Beach failed to find the net even after pulling Aceti with 40 seconds left in regulation. The final shot totals were 23-19 in favor of the Ice Dogs, but the Aces managed to hold that 3-2 margin for the final 32 minutes and won their first road game since December 9 at Fresno.
Alaska (26-16-4) continues its six-game road trip Friday night at Fresno's Save-Mart Center with a 6:00 p.m. AST face-off against the last-place Falcons (12-30-5), who are 1-9-1 in their last 11 games. This week's games will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.alaskaaces.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
