AirHogs Stumble in Winnipeg Opener

WINNIPEG, MB - The Texas AirHogs suffered a 13-0 defeat at the hands of the Winnipeg Goldeyes Monday evening at Shaw Park. The teams continue their three-game series tomorrow at 7:00 p.m.

The AirHogs managed seven hits vs. Goldeyes starter Tyler Herron, who went the full nine innings on 112 pitches. Texas had its opportunities, reaching scoring position seven times without cashing in. Herron struck out five on his way to moving to 5-7 on the year. The nine-inning complete game was his first in 2018 and his fifth over the last two seasons.

Reggie Abercrombie and Tucker Nathans each went deep as the Goldeyes raced out to a 5-0 lead in the first vs. Texas starter Zhu Jinghao. Zhu would last just two innings, allowing six runs on eight hits before an early exit. He dropped to 0-5 on the year.

Cui Enting and Sean Stutzman finished the game on the mound for the AirHogs, combining for 3.1 innings of one-run ball after the Fish got to Liu Yu for an additional six runs. Chen Chen, Yang Jin, and Stewart Ijames each finished with a double.

The AirHogs have now been shutout in three straight games. Winnipeg was paced by Abercrombie, who finished with a double and a home run plus five RBIs.

Texas (17-44) will continue the three-game series vs. Winnipeg (27-36) tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. RHP Sun Jianzeng (1-4, 6.05 ERA) will start for the AirHogs vs. RHP JC Sulbaran (0-2, 9.75 ERA) for the Goldeyes. A live broadcast of the game will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs.
