
AirHogs Fall in 1st Divisional Matchup

GRAND PRAIRIE -- The Texas AirHogs dropped their first South Division game of the season to the Wichita Wingnuts Monday evening at AirHogs Stadium 6-1. Levi Scott picked up the only RBI of the game for Texas and finished 2 for 3 to increase his average to .467 on the season. The Wingnuts tagged starter Griffin Russell for an early run in the top half of the 2nd on an RBI base hit by Martin Medina. Denis Phipps reached on an infield single vs. Wingnuts starter Tyler Kane to start the bottom of the 2nd, and Scott picked up his 2nd RBI of the season with a double to score him.
Wichita posted 3 against Russell in the 3rd to reclaim the lead. Brent Clevlen and Matt Chavez each reached 4 times in the game, with Clevlen scoring twice and Chavez driving in 2 to help the Wingnuts earn their 1st road win of the season. Russell held the bats scoreless in the 4th before passing the baton to Jacob Morris, who carved out 3+ innings of scoreless relief. Wichita tagged lefty Josh Blanco in the 8th and 9th for the final 2 runs.
Trevor Sealey and Ryne Willard each picked up singles for Texas. The AirHogs were outhit 11 to 5 in the game, and the team racked up 11 strikeouts. Wichita starter Tyler Kane struck out 7 over 6 while holding Texas to just the tally in the 2nd. Russell suffered his 1st loss of the season.
The AirHogs (1-4) and Wingnuts (4-1) meet again tomorrow in the 1st morning game of the season at AirHogs Stadium. LHP James Russell (0-0, 4.50 ERA) takes on RHP Alex Boshers (1-0, 3.00 ERA) starting at 11:05.
