AirHogs Can't Hold on Late vs. Saints

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The Texas AirHogs brought a 6-5 lead to the ninth but could not hold on Monday evening at AirHogs Stadium vs. St. Paul. The Saints rallied for six runs in their final turn with the bats to open the four-game series with an 11-6 win.

Dillon Thomas was tremendous at the plate for Texas. The right fielder doubled in each of his first three at-bats, picking up five RBIs to help the AirHogs build a 6-2 lead after four complete. Stewart Ijames recorded the only other RBI of the game for Texas, singling in one as part of a three-run first vs. St. Paul starter Jake Esch.

AirHogs starter Sun Jianzeng went four-plus innings, scattering 11 hits and limiting the Saints to three runs (three earned). The Saints got to Sun Jianzeng and Zheng Chaoquin for three runs in the fifth to draw within 6-5.

Cal Drummond held the contest at one run by setting aside six straight in the seventh and eighth. Conor Costello took over in the ninth and was battered for six runs (six earned) on four hits and two walks as St. Paul stole the lead.

The Saints were led by Brady Shoemaker, who finished 4 for 5 with three runs and two RBIs. Kes Carter drove in three and scored twice as part of a 2 for 5 evening.

Greg Golson joined Thomas as the only AirHogs with multiple hits. He went 2 for 4 with two runs scored. The Saints outhit the AirHogs 18-9.

The AirHogs (1-9) will look to snap their current seven-game losing streak tomorrow vs. the Saints (7-3) at 7:05. RHP Miguel Rosario (0-1, 27.00 ERA) will make his second start of the season vs. RHP Matt Solter (1-0, 5.40 ERA) for the Saints.
