Aidan Kelly Heads North

January 2, 2013 - Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) - Saint John Sea Dogs News Release

SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs announced today that 19-year-old Saint John native Aidan Kelly has been traded to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.

"Aidan has been a pleasure to work with over his three-plus years in Saint John," says Sea Dogs head coach and General Manager Mike Kelly. "He has done everything we have asked of him while he has been with us. He has been an excellent teammate and a versatile forward who was an important piece of our successful teams over the past three years."

In return, Saint John receives 17-year-old defenceman Jeremy Doucet from the Titan.

For a glimpse into Kelly's highlights with the Sea Dogs, visit Sea Dogs TV, the team's official YouTube channel.

Kelly was originally drafted in the second round, 28th overall in the 2009 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League entry draft by the Sea Dogs. He played 19 games during the 2009-2010 QMJHL season, scoring once and adding five assists.

In his sophomore season, Kelly featured in 49 games and had 10 points to his name, six goals and four assists. The 6-foot-1, 207-pound Saint John native stepped it up in his third year, setting career highs in goals, assists and points. He found the back of the net on nine occasions and grabbed 23 assists for 32 points.

Thus far in the 2012-13 season Kelly has two goals and 10 points including two goals and two assists in the month of December, his most productive this season.

Doucet hails from Dieppe, NB and has played in 18 games for the Titan registering two assists along the way. The 6-foot, 200-pound d-man was selected by Bathurst in the fifth round, 86th overall in the 2012 QMJHL entry draft. Ironically enough, both of Doucet's assists were tallied in games against the Sea Dogs.

"It is tough to say goodbye to players like Aidan but we hope he has an opportunity to play an important role for his new team and we will be getting a young defenseman in Doucet that competes hard and hopefully become an important part of our success in the future," Kelly says.

Aidan will do battle with his former team on three more occasions this season. This includes his return to Harbour Station for the Sea Dogs final home game of the 2012-13 regular season on Mar. 8. It will be fan appreciation night with prizes, giveaways and much more. Tickets are available at tickets.harbourstation.ca by calling 657-1234 or by visiting the Harbour Station box office.
