Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release

PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC will host the second night of its 'Health Series' with Pediatric Orthopaedic Night at Highmark Stadium tomorrow night when the Hounds host Atlanta United 2.

Presented by Allegheny Health Network (AHN) - the official medical provider of Riverhounds SC - the Health Series is designed to educate fans and generate awareness about a range of health topics including heart disease prevention, pediatric orthopaedic and concussion awareness, prostate and cancer awareness, and ways to live a healthy life and avoid injury.

AHN will present the first 500 fans, 10 years-and-under, with a superhero cape for Superhero Night. Fans on-site will have the opportunity to learn more about the pediatric orthopaedics services and offerings provided by AHN throughout our region.

Delivering the game ball prior to kickoff will be Special Olympian Ben Stout and the on-site team physician for the Southwest PA Winter Special Olympics, Dr. Robert Schilken, orthopaedic surgeon, AHN Sports Medicine.

"In the past decade many sports have grown in numbers and also much more specialization has occurred," said Craig Castor, Sports Medicine Supervisor at AHN. "Sports like soccer and lacrosse are transitioning from non-traditional to traditional sports, with soccer likely to become the third most popular sport in the United States, according to Gallup's 2018 survey. With this growth, parents need to become aware of the challenges to keeping young athletes healthy.

"Now, more than ever, there is a bigger need for pediatric orthopaedic specialists to care for young athletes and help guide them to make the best decisions about caring for an injury, training, proper nutrition and recovery."

The Pediatric Orthopaedic Institute is a leader in research, training, and education, bringing together a comprehensive group of orthopaedic specialists to treat a wide range of neuromusculoskeletal injuries and conditions with the latest knowledge, research, and technology for infants, children, and young adults.

In addition to Riverhounds SC, AHN is also the official medical provider of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Gannon University, the Community College of Allegheny County, and 19 Pittsburgh-area high school athletic programs. The Network is also one of the few select healthcare providers in the country designated as an official US Olympic Regional Medical Center.
